Steps to get certified to sell real estate in Florida

The process to earn your real estate license in Florida can vary from person to person. However, getting certified usually takes between 2-5 months. To qualify, you must be at least 18 years old, US resident, and have a high school degree (or equivalent).

Meeting these basic requirements will enable you to formally begin your certification process. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Take the Pre-Licensing Course:
Your real estate certification process kicks off with a 63-hour pre-license course with a final examination. The pre0-license course requirement is waived for individuals approved to practice law in Florida.

Prices for the pre-license course can range between $100 to $500. Candidates who enroll in this course have a 6-month deadline to complete it.

To pass the exam, the candidate must have a score of at least 70%. Students who score below have to wait  at least 30 days before they can retake the test.
  • Apply for the Florida Real Estate Exam:
Candidates must send their applications to the Florida Division of Real Estate (DRE) to obtain their reservation for the exam.

As part of the application process, the candidates must submit their license application fee and electronic fingerprints to The Department of Business and Professional Regulations (DBPR). The DBPR will then run a background check on the applicant.
  • Take and pass the exam!
Your real estate exam will be overseen by Pearson VUE. They will offer exams in multiple formats and locations for a surprisingly low cost of $36.75 per exam. Candidates will receive an email with the subject: “Authorization to Test” greenlighting you to take the test.

Applicants must score at least 75% on the exam to finally obtain their real estate certification in Florida. Once you pass the test you can simply download and print your license through your DBPR account.

Congratulations, you have officially become a licensed realtor in Florida!
