A driver is under arrest following a road rage shooting that killed a father of five.
So far, no charges have been filed in the man’s murder, but the family of Bryan Proenza, 34, of Riverview, claims he was shot needlessly by a vehicle that had just slammed the rear of their truck.
Proenza’s death site is now marked with a memorial.
“He (said) I am dying, and I love ya’ll,” said his fiancée Rachel Keesee. “I was like, ‘No you are not.'”
Deputies charged Jorge Ramirez, 20, with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after he fired near Bryan’s family car.
The argument occurred Tuesday afternoon near Balm Riverview and Rhodine Roads, according to a witness. Ramirez was furious because Proenza’s truck was blocking the entrance to a parking lot he intended to drive through to bypass a traffic light.
Deputies wrote. Ramirez slammed them three times, causing them to halt on the side of the road.
Proenza and Ramirez were both outside their automobiles when the bullets were fired.
“Every second of my life it replays in my head, and I am traumatized,” Keesee added.
Bryan was the father or stepfather of five children. He grew up in Riverview, but on that particular day, he was on his way with his fiancée to look at a new home.
“Weapons are definitely not the answer,” stated Keesee. “You intend to take a loved one’s life from another family. Consider how you would feel if someone took your loved one.
As detectives seek to piece together what transpired in the seconds leading up to the shooting – and if the shooter’s claim of self-defense is credible – the rest of Bryan’s family must now move on, knowing that those few seconds will haunt them forever.
Sylvia Proenza, Proenza’s mother, remarked, “This is not something you can forget.” “This is a life-altering event.”
Ramirez has bailed out of jail on three aggravated violence counts.
He is not charged with Bryan’s death, but the state attorney will make that decision.
