A Miami woman is facing felony animal cruelty charges after cutting her dog Sparky’s neck “several times” because she had a dream that “required her to make a sacrifice,” according to police.
After a two-month investigation, police detained Elena Barakova Cowan, 37, of Edgewater, on Friday. According to an arrest report obtained by Local10, Cowan took the dog to a veterinarian for injuries on November 14, and Miami police were called soon after.
Cowan also allegedly informed the officer that Sparky had at least two superficial cuts and two more that were “deeper and overlapping.”
Miami-Dade Animal Services took in the dog for adoption after it survived the incident.
Cowan, a Bulgarian national, was no longer listed in Miami-Dade County jail records as of Monday morning.
