Woman in St. Pete allows child to ingest cocaine, assaults another child

St. Petersburg police detained a lady after she reportedly allowed a 6-year-old to consume cocaine and clawed an 11-year-old.

Laquita Owens, 33, became enraged with the 11-year-old girl and gripped her side and clawed at her chest, according to the police report. According to St. Petersburg police, she has noticeable injuries and scars.

The affidavit also stated that Owens was not supervising the 6-year-old girl when she took cocaine discovered in Owens’ bedroom. The child was taken to the hospital, where they discovered cocaine in her bloodstream. According to court records, she admitted to officers that she ate drugs in her bedroom.

Police claimed Owens admitted to having drugs in her house.

She was brought into Pinellas County Jail on Friday afternoon on felony child neglect and abuse accusations. She is being jailed on a $55,000 bail and is not permitted to contact the 11-year-old.
