Tennessee Woman and Cousin Charged with First-Degree Murder; Soldier Husband was Shot Dead and Zip Tied over Custody Battle

Authorities have apprehended a woman and her cousin in connection with the alleged murder of the woman’s husband, who was a soldier.

On October 1, 2019, deputies from the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office were called to a residence on Shaw Ferry Road. Tragically, they discovered the lifeless body of 35-year-old Jacob Bishop. Authorities suspected that there may have been some wrongdoing involved, leading them to conclude that Bishop’s death was the result of a deliberate act.

Authorities discovered Bishop, a soldier in the Tennessee Army National Guard, suffering from several gunshot wounds and restrained with zip ties.

The investigation into Bishop’s death had remained unsolved for years until a recent breakthrough. The sheriff’s office made an announcement on Aug. 13, revealing that they had arrested Amanda Bishop, Bishop’s wife, and her cousin Eric Byrd, both 39 years old. Deputies credited advancements in technology and new evidence for their ability to identify the suspects.

Prior to the victim’s passing, Amanda Bishop and her spouse were engaged in a contentious custody dispute, which resulted in increased hostility between them, as reported by the sheriff’s office.

Bishop and Byrd have been taken into custody at the Loudon County Detention Center. They are facing charges of first-degree murder, with bonds set at $1 million for each of them.

Sheriff Jimmy Davis emphasized the significance of the recent arrests, stating that they are a significant step towards achieving justice for Jacob Bishop and his family.

“Today’s arrests mark a crucial step toward justice for Jacob Bishop and his family. This case has remained a top priority for our office, and I commend the relentless efforts of our detectives and partner agencies who have worked tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice,” he said.
