With an incarceration rate of 617 per 100,000 inhabitants, North Carolina is frequently chastised for imprisoning more individuals than any other democratic state. Many people are concerned about the gangs that have formed within the jail since conflicts are common, so much so that they are frequently underreported by officials, and the institution has been placed under lockdown multiple times during the 2010s.
Lanesboro Correctional Institution:
Lanesboro Correctional Institution, which opened in 2004, is among North Carolina’s most violent prisons. The jail has a capacity of 1800 inmates and is classified as medium to close security, depending on the offender’s sentence.
The jail is plagued with gang battles and coordinated activities, and to alleviate some of the pressures, it was amalgamated with Brown Creek Correctional Camp.
Scotland Correctional Institution:
Scotland Correctional Institution, an all-state men’s jail, opened in 2003. It is located in Laurinburg, North Carolina, and holds more than 1,756 inmates. Scotland Correctional Institution is a mixed-security jail, and many say this is where things become worse.
What makes this jail a living hell is the constant gang violence, which forces officials to use extreme force on detainees in order to discipline them. Family members of inmates have complained that their loved ones are scorching inside the prisons because they are under lockdown, with authorities controlling food and air conditioning.

Tabor City Correctional Institution:
Tabor City Correctional Institution is fourth on our ranking. It debuted in 2008, and since then, as a category 5 security prison, it has housed some of North Carolina’s most dangerous convicts.
The jail, like others in North Carolina, is understaffed and has a high rate of gang violence. Because it shelters such a huge number of violent prisoners, being understaffed exacerbates the situation, which has occasionally proven harmful to even the officials.

The Alexander Correctional Institution (AXCI) is a closed-security state prison for men that established in 2004.

What’s worse is that, despite overwhelming proof, authorities fail to identify these attacks, and relatively few guards have been reported to face disciplinary action.

Neuse Correctional Institution:
The prison, was opened in 1994, has a medium to minimum security level for its inmates. It has a total capacity of 816 and is regarded as one of North Carolina’s largest state prisons due to its geographic location.
Over the years, the jail has had a dreadful record of sexual assault and gang violence, to the point where prisoners serving their time are afraid to come out because it could threaten their lives. Even those who have been released after serving their sentences have not gone public because they are afraid that those in authority will come after them or send someone.
