From hipster enclaves and luxury areas to student-friendly districts and less affluent places, Miami appears to have something for everyone.
Miami is quite safe when compared to other large cities. However, there are some bad neighborhoods and areas in Miami that you should stay away from. Compared to Miami, these places aren’t nearly as impressive. I will tell you which parts of Miami are the most dangerous if you keep reading.
Overtown
Overtown is one of the most culturally and historically significant sections in Miami that is home to African Americans. However, its illustrious history is overshadowed by rampant gun violence and alarmingly high crime rates.
Because of the gangs, it is not recommended to go for walks late at night. This area is safer than 23% of Miami’s neighborhoods, despite having a crime rate that is 145% greater than the national average. Crime has been steadily rising at a rate of 2% every year.

Downtown
Downtown Miami is a popular tourist destination, but it also happens to be a very dangerous area. At 308% more than the US average, its violent crime rate ranks among the highest.
Because of all the pubs and exciting nightlife in the area, it could seem like you’re in a desirable urban setting.
Out of 30,065 people, 7,758 were convicted of crimes in 2022, including both violent and property offenses. There were 6,649 property offenses and 1,109 violent crimes.
At $357,679, the average property is priced higher than the median income of $34,937. The wide price gap makes it difficult for many people to afford a home in the area, making renting a more attractive option than owning one.
Model City
This area, which is home to 25,023 people, is notorious for having some of the highest rates of violent crime in all of Miami. It is located in the northwest part of the city, and the local drug trade is associated with many violent incidents that occur there.
Model City is notorious for its high rate of robberies, gun violence, and drive-by shootings. The murder rate has been steadily climbing, with a 40% increase from 2011 to 2013.
Even though the neighborhood has seen a decrease in crime due to greater police presence, we still do not recommend strolling or biking about only during the day.
Wynwood
Roughly 17,923 individuals call Wynwood, which is north of Miami and south of Little Haiti’s Design District, home.
Theft of motor vehicles, graffiti, physical violence, and other forms of theft are common forms of property crime. This location has a violent crime rate that is 285% more than the national average, even though it is safer than 23% of Miami areas in Florida. In 2018, there were 7,26 violent offenses and 6,542 property crimes recorded, however, police believe that many violent incidents do not get reported.

Upper Eastside
The crime rate on the Upper Eastside is 230% greater than the national average, making living there somewhat unsafe. Nonetheless, the police are doing a commendable job to ensure the safety of everyone.
Among the 6,245 crimes documented in 2022 were rape, assault, murder, and auto theft. The number of violent offenses was 697, while 5,548 were property crimes.

There are many different parts in Miami, and each one has its own special charm. Its beautiful beaches and vibrant culture have made the city famous. Parts of it, however, do have a crime problem, as is the case with any large city.
