Pancakes and Belgian waffles have been added to the recall of over 600 frozen waffle variants offered by Walmart, Target, and other major stores, according to a statement released by maker TreeHouse Foods on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the list of products being taken off store shelves now includes more than 30 pancake products and more than 200 frozen waffle variations that are marketed at major U.S. retailers. Giant Eagle blueberry pancakes and Trader Joe’s pumpkin waffles are among the recently recalled products.
TreeHouse stated that due to the possibility of Listeria monocytogenes contamination, the recall was expanded to cover all items manufactured at a single site that are still within their expiration date. Infections with Listeria can result in fever, aches in the muscles, and exhaustion. In rare instances, they can also cause convulsions, stiff neck, disorientation, and loss of balance.
After consuming tainted food, symptoms may appear immediately or up to ten weeks later. Those who are pregnant, elderly, or have compromised immune systems are most vulnerable to the diseases.
Retailers that sold the recalled items are:
- Albertson’s
- Aldi
- Dollar General
- Foodhold
- HEB
- Kroger
- Publix
- Target
- Trader Joe’s
- Walmart
According to TreeHouse, no verified instances of sickness connected to the recalled products have surfaced. Customers are being advised to check their freezers for any of the aforementioned products and to discard or return any recalled goods to the retailer for a refund.
Customers can reach TreeHouse by phone at 1-800-596-2903 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (CST) Monday through Friday.
