Many non-profits are still attempting to meet demand due to rising food prices and a rise in demand. Organizations such as Albany’s Capital City Rescue Mission are currently working to meet the need.
Holiday meal preparation, according to organizers, takes on all year long, but this year the shelter is attempting to fulfill increased demand by serving more meals.
The project intends to raise the plate count from 1,800 to 3,000 this year. The executive director of the shelter, Pastor Perry Jones, told us that weeks have been spent by numerous volunteers preparing food.
Prep is going well. We are fully operational. preparing for 3,000 dinners and everything else we do, you know. However, he replied, things are going well. But because Christmas is approaching and we have a lot of work to accomplish, this is only one fantastic improvement.
According to Perry, the numerous volunteers who spend weeks assisting with the meal preparation are the sole reason their Christmas feasts are feasible. The shelter needs more volunteers to assist with other tasks around the shelter, even though donations are always welcome.
According to him, volunteers can offer assistance with a range of tasks, including administrative work and meal preparation initiatives.
The amount of work that needs to be done, like chopping the meat and veggies, makes it fantastic. In addition, a lot of gifts were given to children. “We need a lot of volunteers for that,” he stated.
