A 64-year-old woman and her spouse were traveling from the Rochester region to Cleveland Clinic for a heart transplant, a procedure that could save their lives.
However, a snowstorm left them trapped in Portland.
She had a battery-operated heart pump, so time was of the essence.
Her spouse notified a Cleveland Clinic nurse, who in turn contacted the State Police.
The woman was transported by troopers to Jamestown Airport and Westfield Memorial, where she was flown out for a heart transplant.
According to State Police, this demonstrates how vital cooperation and fast thinking can save lives.
