A Moreau man who attacked a woman he met on a dating app was given a 22-year prison sentence on Wednesday.
First-degree sexual abuse, criminal sex act, second-degree assault, and endangering the welfare of a minor were the convictions Michael Pelletier received in September.
On June 24, 2023, the incident took place at a residence on Selfridge Road in Moreau. The District Attorney’s Office in Saratoga County claims that Pelletier assaulted the 31-year-old victim inside his house while children were present.
In her testimony to the court during sentencing, the victim expressed her rage at Pelletier’s refusal to take responsibility for his actions.
He decided not to be responsible for his actions. I feel humiliated, disgusted, and angry. I will never be able to regain the person I was before he stole her away. You never really recover from this, and even though I will begin to heal, I will never be the same person he took from me. I will be impacted by this for the rest of my life. I have to fight to survive every day, and the defendant’s decisions to brutally attack me are to blame.
The defendant was informed by Judge Jim Murphy He acknowledged that the victim is a survivor and that this does not imply no.
Additionally, Pelletier was under post-release supervision for 20 years.
