State Police investigator takes stand in attempted murder trial of self-proclaimed anti-violence advocate

On Thursday, the trial of Dontie Mitchell, a self-described anti-violence activist, resumed testimony in her attempted murder case.

In connection with the August 11, 2023, murder of Shieer Leggett in the vicinity of 125 Main St. in Cohoes, Mitchell has been charged.

One State Police detective was among the witnesses who testified. On August 14, 2023, he pulled over Mitchell on the southbound lane of 787 close to Exit 8 on body camera footage. Mitchell’s Honda Accord was being sought by the police.

They wanted to question Mitchell. At the back of the vehicle, one soldier pulls out his revolver and shouts: Hands up! Raise your hands! Get your hands out of the window!

Mitchell is removed from the vehicle by the second trooper. Mitchell, wearing jeans and a gray Gap T-shirt, is helpful.

The video had some sound redacted. According to the trooper, Mitchell will be questioned by Cohoes Police. Additionally, his vehicle will be examined for evidence.

Twenty-four shell casings were found at the crime scene, according to testimony from a State Police forensics inspector. Three distinct 9mm semiautomatic handguns fired them.

After noon, the prosecution is anticipated to conclude its case.
