Thedailymiaminews– Initially, medical professionals were unable to diagnose the 7-year-old Texas girl who had damage to her colon and lower intestine as well as ulcers in her GI tract.
However, family members then developed a shocking theory: The girl had been poisoned by her grandmother, who served as her primary caregiver.
According to an arrest affidavit acquired by Dallas Fox station KDFW, police concluded after an investigation that Lisa Campbell-Goins, the girl’s 56-year-old grandmother, had been putting an alkaline-like substance—possibly a degreaser—down the girl’s feeding tube.
According to a Facebook post, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office concluded that the medical child abuse was a case of Munchausen by proxy syndrome. The National Institutes of Health states that the disorder is “characterized by fabrication or induction of signs or symptoms of a disease.”
Investigators suspect Campbell-Goins was intentionally causing her granddaughter’s health issues by inserting an unnecessary gastric feeding tube. Additionally, they believe she might have been trying to elicit compassion for the girl in order to create a GoFundMe page and raise money.
Campbell-Goins was taken into custody by deputies last week on suspicion of child exploitation, child harm, and unlawful restraint. On a $150,000 bond, she is detained at the Tarrant County Corrections Center.
The statement stated that Campbell-Goins had cared for the girl since she was a baby. In August 2023, the grandmother reportedly brought her granddaughter to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth due to extreme diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration. The girl’s gastrointestinal issues are reported to have perplexed doctors because the “illness presentation did not match a known medical diagnosis.”
Investigators think Campbell-Goins had also been controlling the girl with sedatives.
It’s shocking to learn that Campbell-Goins has already been charged with child medical abuse. She allegedly overmedicated her son in 1999, according to KDFW. According to reports, she was mandated to attend parenting lessons.
Regarding the latest case, investigators are trying to find out if anyone made a donation to Campbell-Goins’ purported hoax on her GoFundMe page. Anyone who did is urged to call 817-884-3749 to speak with Det. Michael Weber of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office.
