A Florida guy is being held in Michigan on suspicion of kidnapping outside a gym in Macomb County.
Shelby Township Police said Angel Pantoja, 22, of Tampa, was detained after a months-long kidnapping investigation.
According to authorities, a 24-year-old male was kidnapped in the parking lot of Lifetime Fitness in Shelby Township in October by several armed and masked men.
After leading cops on a chase, one of the suspects was apprehended that night. The Shelby Township Police Detective Bureau has been investigating the matter for several weeks in order to locate the others who were involved. “Many search warrants and interviews have been conducted in this complex investigation,” a police spokesperson stated.
The investigation finally led police to Tampa, where Pantoja was apprehended with the assistance of local authorities.
Carjacking, Conspiracy to commit carjacking, Armed robbery, Conspiracy to commit armed robbery, Torture, Unlawful imprisonment, Conspiracy to commit unlawful imprisonment, and Conspiracy to commit home invasion – 1st degree were all filed against Pantoja this week.
to his arraignment on Thursday, his bond was set to $3 million cash only (no 10%).
Several more are being held in other states and are awaiting extradition to Michigan, according to authorities.
The Shelby Twp. police Department did not provide any other information on the kidnapping, including a suspected motive in the case.
The probe is still going on.
