Marietta man accused of murdering his girlfriend arrested in Florida

A 41-year-old Marietta man accused of murdering his girlfriend at her home near Hollydale Elementary School was caught in Florida last Thursday, according to the Cobb County Police Department.

Charles Cook is suspected of fatally beating Melinda Jolly, 44, of Marietta, on January 17 at 3269 Perch Drive in West Cobb, a residence listed under Jolly’s name by the Cobb tax assessor.

Jolly was discovered dead during a welfare check by a family member, according to Cobb County Police.

A warrant for Cook’s arrest states that he “caused multiple blunt force trauma injuries to the head and neck of Melinda Jolly, causing her death” after a domestic altercation. According to the warrant, Cook “used his hands and unknown objects” to beat Jolly.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended Cook on January 18. He was accused of murder and aggravated assault.

Cook is now awaiting extradition to Cobb, according to authorities.
