Woman found stabbed to death in her East Harlem apartment bathtub: Police

According to authorities, a woman was found stabbed to death in her Manhattan apartment’s bathtub, and they are now seeking her ex-boyfriend.

The gruesome find was reported at 7 p.m. Tuesday at an East Harlem apartment building on Second Avenue, authorities said. Officers were dispatched to conduct a welfare check after Melanie Woods, 33, missed a planned vacation to California.

After forcing their way inside, which was made more difficult by the discovery of a table blocking the doorway from within, officers discovered Woods asleep and unresponsive in the tub. According to authorities, Woods had been stabbed several times in the chest and had injuries on her neck. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

An inquiry found that a neighbor heard a ruckus from the flat before 8 a.m. on the same day, followed by someone leaving. According to police reports, Woods’ ex-boyfriend was seen leaving the building on Tuesday.

Police are looking for the ex-boyfriend, who has not been identified, in connection with Woods’ death. An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with knowledge of the incident is asked to contact the police.
