Google is slated to release the low-cost Pixel 8a on May 14, 2024, during Google I/O. While the smartphone has not been officially unveiled, numerous rumors have given us an idea of what to expect.
According to an exclusive report from Android Headlines, a couple of new key information about the Pixel 8a have leaked, including the affordable phone’s improved AI Camera and 7 years of security update support.
Seven years of upgrades.
The Google Pixel 7a came with “at least five years” of software security updates, making it an inexpensive smartphone you could keep for a long time without fear of hacking or software vulnerabilities compromising your data. However, according to one rumor, the Pixel 8a will receive seven years of security upgrades, two more years than the Pixel 7a.
This alone may make the Google Pixel 8a the greatest smartphone for the majority of customers when it launches later this month. It’s worth noting that this isn’t as fantastic as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which also receive seven years of security and operating system updates. However, security updates are increasingly crucial, especially on Android, where many feature improvements are delivered via app updates rather than OS updates.
The Pixel 8a will also include Google One VPN, which seems weird given that the software is planned to be phased down in June. It will also be IP67-certified for dust and water protection.
AI Camera Features
According to Android Headlines, Google is hyping the Pixel 8a’s “AI-mazing” camera. Adding features like Audio Magic Eraser, Night Sight, and Best Take.” The Pixel 7a already had access to Google’s Night Sight and a version of Best Take. Last fall, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro received an update that included Audio Magic Eraser.
According to Android Headlines, the Pixel 8a will also include Call Assist, email summaries, and Circle to Search capabilities to improve overall efficiency. The exclusive also indicates that the Pixel 8a will use Google’s Tensor G3 chipset platform.
