GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga (DMN) – Two teenagers, a 16-year-old girl, and a 17-year-old boy, were apprehended on Tuesday following a pursuit that involved a stolen truck, a high school football field, and the Gwinnett County Police Department.
On August 6, the Gwinnett County Police Department received a report of a stolen Ram 1500 truck from a residence on Adams Acre Drive in Lawrenceville. The truck’s owner captured video footage of the two thieves as they entered several vehicles before eventually locating the keys in the truck and making off with it.
“We believe the suspects were just breaking into cars, found the keys, and decided to take the truck,” said Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Collin Flynn.
According to reports, the stolen truck was taken to Mill Creek High School where it was used to cause damage to the football field.
Later that day, multiple Flock cameras in the Buford area captured footage of the truck being picked up. Officers arrived at the scene and discovered the truck located behind a Walmart on Sardis Church Road. Two individuals were found seated in the truck.
The officers tried to surround the vehicle by positioning one officer behind the truck and another officer in front. Nevertheless, the truck started to move, coming dangerously close to hitting one of the officers.
“The vehicle was very close to striking the officer who tried to stop them initially. Had they moved over about a foot, they could’ve struck our officer and injured him more severely,” said Sgt. Flynn.
The officers pursued the truck briefly until it collided with another vehicle on Hamilton Mill Road. Following the collision, the two criminals swiftly exited the vehicle and immediately began fleeing on foot.
Authorities pursued the two individuals, employing a Taser on the teenage girl during the incident.
A 17-year-old named Robert Krause from Lawrenceville was apprehended shortly after.
Krause and the girl were transported to a youth detention center. The individual is facing a range of charges, including aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, attempting to evade a police officer, reckless driving, hit-and-run, driving without a license, obstruction, providing false information to a police officer, theft of a motor vehicle, and unauthorized entry into a vehicle.
