Knife-Wielding Suspect Shot by Deputy After Hot Chase and Struggle in Woods: CCSO States

Homosassa, FL (DMN) – A suspect wielding a knife was shot by a Citrus County deputy in Homosassa on Thursday, according to officials.

An investigation is underway by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office into a battery incident involving an elderly victim who sustained serious injuries. Authorities discovered a residence on West Jarovi Court with several individuals present during their investigation.

Upon arrival, the suspect swiftly fled from the rear of the residence, prompting one of the deputies to give chase. The pursuit extended through different yards and concluded in the woods off of West Linden Drive, as reported by CCSO.

The suspect proceeded to engage in a physical altercation with the deputy, making an attempt to seize the firearm issued by the agency. According to authorities, the suspect proceeded to intimidate the deputy by brandishing a knife.

According to officials, the suspect was shot by a Citrus County deputy. The suspect received medical attention at the scene and was transported to a nearby hospital.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will now be leading the investigation into the shooting involving a deputy, while CCSO is currently present at the scene gathering evidence. The deputy involved will be placed on administrative leave, as per standard procedure.
