Yes, it’s the River City, where new ideas flow… which seems to mean fun dies. What is it about this city that makes it so dull? Pick what you want. First, it’s the third least heavily populated area in the state, so if you want to meet someone while you’re walking from bar to bar or restaurant to restaurant…
No, I’m joking. Danville doesn’t have many of those either. What are some things to do in Danville? You could always spend the night at Micky D’s since it has the 12th most fast food restaurants per person.
South Riding
Even though most people in South Riding make a lot of money (about $140,000 a year), as the saying goes, money can’t buy you… joy. It kind of can, though. Why isn’t South Riding more fun then? It could be because only 18.5% of the people who live there are between the ages of 18 and 34.
Or it might have something to do with the fact that South Riding has some of the fewest places to see music and perform in the state. Not to mention the sixth-least places to go out at night, the fourth-least arts venues, and the fifth-least restaurants… But hey, at least there isn’t any fast food there!

Short Pump
No disrespect meant, but if your town’s main attraction is a shopping mall, that should tell you a lot about how exciting it is. No, we’re not serious. Short Pump has a lot more than just the Short Pump Town Center! You could go to a bar, though Short Pump has some of the smallest crowds per person.
You could also try to find live music, but that will be hard. With the fifth and sixth fewest per capita in the state, how about some fine arts or tasty food? Okay, fine. You can at least bowl there.
Suffolk
Interesting fact! By land size, Suffolk is Virginia’s biggest city! Another interesting fact is that doesn’t mean it’s full of people. The 85,000 people who live in this city are actually spread out more than in any other place we looked at. This means it’s not easy to walk from one place to another. We don’t think you’d want to, though.

Not as many nightlife options as in 37 other places we looked at. It also has some of the fewest arts listings and, for each person, some of the fewest active life choices. On the bright side, you’d get plenty of exercise just going from one place to another since there aren’t many other things you can do.
West Springfield
The little town in Fairfax County is pretty much the typical cute, family-friendly, but incredibly dull, ideal spot to settle down and raise a family. That, in and of itself, is a huge adventure. We’re not talking about that kind of excitement. To be more exact, West Springfield had almost no music or arts events, the second-fewest listings for active lifestyles, and even a pretty sad selection of places to eat.
