Great Meadow Correctional facility in Washington County has officially shut down and its employees have gone elsewhere.

Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Washington County has officially shut down, and its employees have gone elsewhere.

The facility closed its doors on Wednesday, the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision told NewsChannel 13.

The Washington Correctional Facility next door will monitor the property, they said.

Utilities will be shut down, and the buildings will be closed and boarded up, according to the Department of Corrections.

NewsChannel 13 asked the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision on Thursday how many staff members at Great Meadow took jobs at other prisons around the state. They told us they’re only required to share that information with the legislature within 60 days after closing.

The state announced in July that Great Meadow was one of two prisons that would close to save money.
