The Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany wants to make sure the people who attend the Elijah Missionary Baptist Church still have a place to worship after a devastating fire gutted the 144-year-old building.

Bishop Avery Comithier got a call Friday morning from Bishop Edward Scharfenberger, who is currently out of the country.

During the conversation, Bishop Scharfenberger said: “Whatever we can do, we will.”

The diocese is offering congregation space in some of its Albany churches so people can continue to worship. Those plans are still coming together now, but for this weekend, people will be able to go to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Eagle Street in Albany.

Bishop Comithier is so grateful for the help, he said.
