Elijah Missionary Baptist Church services to be held at another Albany congregation Sunday afternoon

Church affected by fire will have services at another congregation in Albany Sunday afternoon

The Elijah Missionary Baptist Church in Albany is being torn down this weekend after it was destroyed by fire.

The flames broke out Thursday night.

This church in Albany’s south-end neighborhood had been around since 1880.

The process to tear down the church is expected to take up to ten days.

As for churchgoers, Bishop Avery Comithier told NewsChannel 13 that Sunday’s service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany.

The church is on Madison Ave and Eagle Street next to the Governor’s Mansion.

He says this will be a service of unity and solidarity.

Meanwhile, for anyone looking to help, there is a GoFundMe set up for the church.
