Brock Purdy’s status for the 49ers in doubt this week because of sore shoulder

SANTA CLARA, CA (AP) — Due to a painful throwing shoulder, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been limited in practice this week and is probably going to be a game-time decision for Sunday’s game against Green Bay.

Purdy injured his right shoulder in last week’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks, so he only threw a few passes during the media-only portion of practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

Purdy’s regular news conference was postponed by the 49ers until Friday while they continue to assess his availability to play against the Packers.

Coach Kyle Shanahan stated Thursday in his weekly appearance with the team’s flagship radio station, KNBR, that he was still limited today and that he did a little bit more today than he did yesterday. About halfway through, he returned inside to recuperate after spending some time outside. On Sunday, hopefully, it will feel fantastic.

Since becoming the 49ers’ quarterback in December 2001, Purdy has not missed a start due to an injury. His team’s chances of making the playoffs would be severely damaged if he is unable to go on Sunday.

After making it to the Super Bowl the previous season, the Niners (5-5) have little room for error if they hope to return to the postseason. They are now one game behind first-place Arizona in a three-way tie for second in the NFC West.

Compared to his league-high 113 in 2023, Purdy has completed 66% of his passes this season for 2,613 yards, 13 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a 95.9 passer rating.

This week, Purdy isn’t the only important San Francisco player coping with an injury. Due to an ankle injury, All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams missed his second consecutive practice. Williams played against Seattle after missing all of last week’s practice due to an ankle issue.

After hurting his left hip and oblique in the second half against the Seahawks, star defensive end Nick Bosa departed the game and hasn’t practiced this week. Bosa had previously struggled with oblique and right hip issues.

Williams and Bosa won’t need to practice this week in order to play on Sunday, according to Shanahan.

Christian McCaffrey, a running back who is still battling Achilles tendonitis, resumed practice on Thursday after taking Wednesday off. After missing the Seattle game due to a hamstring issue, tight end George Kittle said he will play this week after practicing for the second day in a row.

The receiver Due to the concussion procedure, Jacob Cowing did not practice for a day following his limitation.

On Friday, the team will provide its injury report for the match.
