Police: Gansevoort man caused crash while nearly 3x too drunk to drive

A man from Gansevoort is charged with driving under the influence and causing a chain-reaction collision.

Jarod B. Nichols, 42, struck a car that was stopped at a red light while traveling north on Route 9, according to State Police. Another car that was stopped in front of that one was pushed into it. There were no injuries.

As part of their weekly DWI roundup, police reported the incident on Friday, November 22, even though it occurred on November 11 at approximately 6:20 p.m.

After being detained and brought to the State Police station, Nichols’ blood alcohol level was found to be 0.23%, which is over three times the legal limit of 0.08%.

The accusation was raised to a felony because he has also been convicted of DWI within the last ten years.

On December 4, Nichols is expected to appear in Moreau Town Court.
