Dallas (AP) Bishop T.D. Jakes, the founder of the megachurch The Potter’s House in Dallas, experienced what the church described as a minor health episode while preaching there.
On Sunday, Jakes, 67, was addressing churchgoers when he sat down and started to shake as a number of people gathered around him, one of whom asked for prayers.
Following his stirring one-hour sermon, Bishop T.D. Jakes had a minor health episode and was given prompt medical assistance, the church said in a statement.
In a social media video posted late Sunday, Jakes’ daughter Sarah Jakes Roberts and her husband Tour Roberts stated that Jakes was getting better.
According to Tour Roberts, Bishop is doing well, healing well, receiving medical attention, and being strong.
A message left with the church on Monday morning was not immediately returned, and the couple did not disclose Jakes’ whereabouts.
According to his website, the 67-year-old Jakes established the non-denominational Potter’s House in 1996, with campuses in Fort Worth, Frisco, Texas, and Denver. Today, the organization boasts over 30,000 members.
According to his website, Jakes has also written books, produced and appeared in a number of movies, and given a speech at former President Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration.
