HABITUAL TRAFFIC OFFENDER FLEES TROOPERS, JUMPS OFF SEVEN MILE BRIDGE

On Nov. 26, an adult male reportedly jumped off the Seven Mile Bridge to escape the Florida Highway Patrol on U.S. 1.

The FHP tried to stop a driver who was later determined to be a repeat traffic offender at around 2:32 p.m., which led to the incident. An aiding Middle Keys Marine Unit from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office scooped up the suspect after he leaped from the bridge. Shortly after, the man—whose identity was not immediately made public—was taken into the custody of the FHP.

Sheriff Rick Ramsay expressed gratitude to the troopers and deputies who helped capture this repeat offender. Our collaboration with the Florida Highway Patrol, whose presence in Monroe County is much valued, as demonstrated by this occurrence.
