Washington (AP) The traditional trio of turkey, travel, and transactions will once again absorb Americans as Thanksgiving approaches and the holiday shopping season officially begins.
Black Friday, the largest shopping day of the year and the unofficial beginning of the holiday gift-buying season, will see many large U.S. businesses open early the day after Thanksgiving Day, even though the majority of them are closed on Thanksgiving Day.
Here are the open and closed locations for Thanksgiving, along with a travel advisory from AAA Auto Club’s experts.
Government Structures
Courts, schools, post offices, and government buildings are all closed.

The stock market and banks
Banks and stock markets in the United States are closed on Thursday. On Friday, however, markets return for a shorter trading day that ends at 1 p.m. Eastern.
Delivery of Packages
While some essential services may be provided at specific locations, standard FedEx and UPS pickup and delivery services will not be available on Thanksgiving.
Shops
Walmart will not be open on Thanksgiving, but on Black Friday, the majority of its stores will open at 6 a.m. local time.
The majority of Target’s stores will open at 6 a.m. local time on Black Friday, but Target will be closed on Thanksgiving.
While other retailers will have extended hours from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Black Friday, Macy’s will be closed on Thanksgiving.
While many stores will open as early as 5 a.m. on Black Friday, Kohl’s will remain closed on Thanksgiving. For hours, check your local location.
On Black Friday, Costco will reopen after being closed on Thanksgiving. For hours, visit the website of your neighborhood store.

For last-minute turkey day needs, the majority of national grocery store chains are open on Thanksgiving, though many close early. Details can be found at your local store.
Journey
The extended Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year because most schools are closed on Thursday and Friday.
According to AAA, over the Thanksgiving holiday travel season, a record 79.9 million people will travel 50 miles or more from their homes. In an effort to better predict the flow of holiday travelers, AAA for the first time included the Tuesday before and the Monday after Thanksgiving Day in its prediction.
Nearly 80 million travelers are expected this year, which is 1.7 million higher than the previous year and 2 million more than in 2019.
