Jury selection begins in murder trial of former anti-violence activist

Dontie Mitchell’s jury selection process began on Monday.

The former self-described anti-violence campaigner is currently incarcerated on an attempted murder charge.

This has to do with Shieer Leggett’s shooting death in Cohoes.

Following the dismissal of his initial murder charge, Mitchell was re-indicted for attempted murder in February.

According to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, he is also charged with a criminal sex act, but they wish to proceed with both cases concurrently.
