Pair charged in deadly Canaan Thanksgiving crash

In a fatal collision in Canaan, two people have been taken into custody by State Police.

On Thanksgiving evening, Shawn Barnwell, 25, of the Bronx, collided on State Route 295, just west of Stony Hill Road, while operating a vehicle with a suspended license, according to investigators.

Sarah Kucka, a 27-year-old passenger, is charged with lying to State Police by claiming to be driving.

At Berkshire Medical Center, 20-year-old Sierra Tassone was declared deceased after being flung from the vehicle.

Kucka was accused of conspiring and obstructing government operations. Her court date is December 12.

Barnwell received a ticket.
