WASHINGTON (AP) — Following an altercation with the occupants of a sedan early Tuesday, a Secret Service member on protective assignment outside Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s home discharged a firearm, sparking an inquiry.
According to Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, the agent assigned to Yellen’s protective detail saw an automobile with several people trying to open car doors outside her residence at about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Gunfire resulted from an altercation between the agent and the passengers in the car. The number of bullets fired by the agent was unknown. There is no proof that anyone was hurt, according to the Secret Service.
According to Guglielmi, local police enforcement was given a lookout when the suspects left the scene in the sedan.
The shooting is being investigated by the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office will also review the case.
