The need for accessible, reasonably priced healthcare in the areas where our inhabitants live, work, and play was brought to light by data from the 2022 Stock Island Community Health Survey, according to Carla Fry, the health department’s administrator and health officer. We started working on a solution after treating the survey results as useful information.
The college’s president, Jonathan Gueverra, was pleased to see the school join the health collaboration.
According to Gueverra, CFK will always be the college for this town. By being the solution or a component of the solution, we fulfill this objective. Another instance of CFK being used to address an issue is the Tuga Clinic. We are honored to serve as both the host and a partner in this partnership, which will enhance the health and well-being of our students, staff, and neighbors while giving our future medical professionals access to clinical experience.
The county health department’s 2022 Stock Island Community Health Survey, which focused on the urgent need for a medical clinic on Stock Island, was principally conducted by Jennifer Lefelar, public information officer.
According to Lefelar, the results of the DOH-Monroe survey confirm the necessity for Stock Island workers and residents to have access to a medical clinic that is considerably closer to their places of employment and residence.
Once a week, a practitioner from Rural Health Network will visit the Tuga Clinic. Additionally, the clinic will make use of the mobile dentistry unit from Rural Health Network.
“With this partnership with the College of the Florida Keys and DOH-Monroe, we are thrilled to increase access to medical and dental care for Monroe County residents,” said Amy Halstead, CEO of Rural Health Network.
The clinic’s first hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays and noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. 305-293-7500 is the number to contact to make an appointment.
