NEW YORK (AP) Since UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was assaulted outside a hotel in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday, the hunt for Thompson’s attacker has expanded outside New York City. The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information that leads to the suspect’s capture and conviction, but they are still searching for the person. In addition, the NYPD is offering a reward of $10,000.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny told reporters Friday that the shooter bought with cash and used a phony ID during his ten days in the city. Additionally, he disguised his face except when he was checking into a hostel. Police were able to create a history of his movements after he was caught on some of the thousands of surveillance cameras that covered Manhattan.
What we currently know about what the NYPD refers to as a planned attack is as follows.
November 24
10:11 p.m. The alleged shooter lands at the Port Authority terminal in New York City on a Greyhound bus. The bus left Atlanta and traveled to New York, stopping six or seven times. Where he boarded the bus was not immediately apparent to the police.
After that, the man takes a taxi to the New York Hilton Midtown, where he spends roughly thirty minutes.
Around 11 p.m. After arriving at the HI New York City Hostel, located at 891 Amsterdam Ave., in a taxi, the man remains there until the morning of the shooting. Police suspect that the identification he offers is fraudulent. According to the authorities, he wore his mask so that his two roommates in a shared room with bunkbeds never saw his face.
He quickly removed his facemask and grinned while chatting with a staff member in the hostel lobby; this moment was caught on camera and has been extensively shared by law enforcement.

The man was automatically checked out of the hostel if they don’t show up at the counter by a specific time. The police don’t think he went anywhere else and returned to the hostel the following day.
December 4
Around 5:30 a.m. Long before daybreak, the alleged shooter departs the lodge.
5:41 a.m. He can be seen on camera moving back and forth between the Hilton hotel and the location where UnitedHealth Group, the parent company of United Healthcare, is hosting its annual investor conference at 54th Street and Sixth Avenue.
Because it took him so little time to get to the Hilton, police conclude that he rode a bicycle. Was the bike taken by him? “We’re still investigating these,” Kenny stated.
He eventually bought a bottle of water and at least one energy bar from a neighboring Starbucks before heading back to the hotel.
6:44 a.m. The executive enters alone, walking from a hotel across the street, and he shoots Thompson. The man runs away.
6:48 a.m. At the intersection of Center Drive and 60th Street, the man rides his bicycle into Central Park. Police think he throws away a gray backpack in the park, away from security cameras.
6:56 a.m. Still riding his bicycle, he exits the park at the intersection of West 77th Street and Central Park West.
6:58 a.m. Still riding his bike, he passes another camera at the intersection of 85th Street and Columbus Avenue.
Seven in the morning. He is now at 86th Street without the bicycle.
7:04 a.m. At 86th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, he gets into a taxi heading north.
7:30 a.m. He is close to the bus station and the George Washington Bridge. In addition to Greyhound services to Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington, it provides commuter service to New Jersey.
Investigators discover the phrases “deny, defend, and depose” permanently inscribed on ammunition near the location of the attack. The remark is similar to one used by critics of the insurance business.
December 6
According to Kenny and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, authorities think the shooter took a bus out of New York City. Although they have not located any video showing him stepping off or boarding a bus, investigators claim he entered the George Washington Bridge Bus Station.
According to Kenny, a potential motive in a briefing could be an unhappy client or employee.
Police claim to have located the man’s backpack. There is no disclosure of its contents.
December 7
Scuba divers can be seen searching a pond as police continue their search of Central Park. More images of the alleged gunman in the backseat of a taxi and next to it are released by the NYPD. He can be seen wearing a blue, medical-style face mask in both pictures.
Police have not yet made the suspect’s identity public, even after obtaining a fingerprint from the Starbucks transaction and sending things for DNA testing.
