Washington (AP) President Joe Biden stated on Sunday that Washington is dedicated to bringing missing American journalist Austin Tice home following Bashar Assad’s overthrow in Damascus, and that the U.S. government believes he is still alive. Tice vanished 12 years ago near the Syrian capital.
While admitting that we don’t have concrete proof of his position, Biden told reporters at the White House that he believes we can get him back. Assad must to answer for his actions.
Following his disappearance at a checkpoint in a disputed area west of Damascus in August 2012, Biden stated that authorities still need to pinpoint Tice’s precise whereabouts.
“We’re still determined to get him back to his family,” he stated.
Tice is a Houston native whose writing has appeared in publications such as The Washington Post and McClatchy newspapers.
Weeks after Tice vanished, a video surfaced of him saying, “Oh, Jesus,” while being detained by armed men and blindfolded. Since then, no one has heard from him.Syria has denied in public that it was detaining him.
According to a U.S. official, the United States continues to act as though Tice is still alive despite the lack of fresh proof to support that claim. The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity and was not permitted to make public comments, stated that the United States will keep trying to find him and bring him home.
At a press conference on Friday in Washington, his mother, Debra, stated that the family had confirmation that her son was still alive from a key source, whom she did not name.
“We are aware that he is receiving proper care and is doing well,” she stated.
Last week, representatives from the White House and the State Department visited with the Tice family.
