Jury deliberations in continue in attempted murder trial of self-proclaimed anti-violence activist

In the trial of a self-described anti-violence activist accused of attempted murder, jury deliberations resumed Monday morning. This relates to the August 11, 2023, Cohoes shooting.

The prosecution statedDontie Mitchell went to confront a gathering of persons near 125 Main St. According to Mitchell’s testimony, he was worried that two of the young people he supervised were spending time with Bloods gang members.

Nalik Sealey had fired back at Mitchell after Mitchell had fired at him. A round from Sealey’s gun killed Shieer Leggett.

Surveillance footage shows Mitchell firing first, despite his claim of self-defense.

After a week-long trial, the case was presented to the jury at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Friday, the day of closing arguments. Mitchell
