DETROIT (AP) The troubled manufacturer Stellantis is bringing back an executive who retired this year while CEO Carlos Tavares was leading the firm because it has determined that its Ram brand requires its own management.
According to company spokeswoman Shawn Morgan on Monday, Tim Kuniskis, the unofficial spokesperson for the American muscle automobile, will take over as CEO of Ram with immediate effect.
Kuniskis’s return is one of a number of management changes the faltering business has made to strengthen its position as a leader in North America.
This year, sales of Ram pickups, the company’s best-selling and most lucrative product, have dropped by about 18% as a result of Stellantis being found to have too many expensive cars while consumers were searching for cheaper models.
Other commercial trucks and vans are also under the Ram brand.
After over 32 years at Stellantis, the fourth-largest carmaker in the world created by the 2021 merger of Fiat Chrysler and France’s PSA Peugeot, Kunisk departed in May. He oversaw Dodge’s shift to electrified muscle cars and had previously operated the Ram and Dodge muscle car brands.
Following the company’s dismal financial results and dwindling revenues, Tavares resigned on December 1. The board of the firm stated that it held a different opinion about the company’s future than Tavares did.
