Dallas (AP) A source close to the agreement tells The Associated Press that right-hander Nathan Eovaldi and the Texas Rangers have reached an agreement on a three-year, $75 million contract.
The two-time World Series champion’s successful physical was a prerequisite for the agreement, so the source talked to the AP on condition of anonymity Tuesday night.
One of the Rangers’ main summer objectives was to bring back the 34-year-old Eovaldi.
After turning down a $20 million vested player option for the 2025 campaign, Eovaldi became a free agent on November 4.
After joining the Rangers in free agency, the two-time All-Star also received a $2 million buyout from that option, which he earned by pitching more than 300 innings in his two years there.
In 2023, Eovaldi was 5-0 with a 2.95 ERA in six postseason appearances and was the winning pitcher in their World Series-winning game at Arizona. He participated in Boston’s 2018 championship as well.
Although the Rangers had stated that re-signing the Texas native was one of their top goals, they had anticipated that Eovaldi would reject the option.
