Columbia County woman gets 20 years in prison for firing at police

A woman from Columbia County who fired a gun at a State Police sergeant received a sentence of 20 years in jail and five years of post-release supervision.

At trial in August, Madison A. Kreutzer, 38, of Livingston, was convicted of criminal trespass, reckless endangerment, attempted murder, and possession and use of firearms violations.

The tragedy took place in the town of Gallatin in 2020. A report of a suspect brandishing a gun prompted State Police to respond to a residence. The property also had two landscapers and two housekeepers.

According to the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, Kreutzer fired at least two bullets when a police sergeant approached the residence. After negotiating with the police, she returned to the house and turned herself up.

Nobody was harmed.

Kreutzer will be taken to state prison after being detained in county jail following the conclusion of the trial.
