South Korea’s SEOUL (AP) The president of South Korea has refuted accusations of insurrection and defended his martial law order as an act of governance.
Hours before the Democratic Party, the biggest liberal opposition party, filed a fresh impeachment resolution against Yoon, Suk Yeol made his broadcast remarks on Thursday. This Saturday, the opposition party intends to put the move to a vote on the floor.
Legislators from the ruling party boycotted a vote at the National Assembly last Saturday, ending its earlier attempt to remove Yoon from office.
Political unrest and calls for Yoon’s removal have resulted from his declaration of martial law on December 3.
