A Brevard County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man early Tuesday morning following a domestic disturbance in Viera, Florida. Authorities say the incident occurred at around 2:45 a.m. in the 1100 block of Egret Lake Way.
Deputies responded to a call regarding a domestic disturbance, where they learned that the man had allegedly threatened a woman with a gun and a knife. The woman managed to flee to a neighbor’s house for safety, prompting the arrival of law enforcement.
Upon making contact with the man, deputies reported that he was uncooperative and made threats. Around 3:45 a.m., the man emerged from his home holding a handgun and pointed it at the deputies. In response, one deputy fired, striking the man.
The man was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His identity, along with that of the involved deputy, has not been released at this time.
The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is under investigation. This is standard procedure for such cases. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation, and once complete, the findings will be submitted to the Office of the State Attorney for review.
The investigation is ongoing.
