PHOENIX (Thedailymiaminews)— A guy who killed a man in Phoenix in 2023 will serve more than 40 years in jail.
For the murder of Geoffrey Rugwiro, Dave Dinkins was given a 42-year jail sentence, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell stated on Friday.
According to officials, Rugwiro was beaten to death on March 21, 2023, and his body was burned close to Madison Street and 11th Avenue. The region was often known as “The Zone.”
A security footage that showed Rugwiro being led into a location where a significant amount of blood was discovered identified Dinkins. Then, according to the authorities, Dinkins shoved Rugwiro’s body into a shopping cart and dumped it in a dumpster.
Dinkins then lit the dumpster on fire while Rugwiro’s body was inside, according to a statement issued by the county attorney.
Phoenix Police discovered incriminating communications that connected him to the murder during the course of the investigation.
The county attorney also disclosed that one of Rugwiro’s relatives told the court that after their family fled Rwanda’s genocide, Rugwiro was “one of the few beacons of hope for life.”
Dinkins entered a guilty plea to charges of kidnapping, a Class 2 dangerous felony, and second-degree murder, a Class 1 dangerous felony.
According to County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, “this defendant displayed an unfathomable degree of cruelty and an immense disregard for the victim’s life.” “Those who lived and worked in “The Zone” and the surrounding area suffered from crime and violence for far too long. Everyone in Maricopa County is entitled to a sense of security in our neighborhood. My office is committed to holding accountable anyone who jeopardize safety and security.
