Father and High School Student Among Victims in Fullerton Plane Crash

Thedailymiaminews:- A tragic plane crash in Fullerton on January 2 claimed the lives of a father and his teenage daughter, who have now been identified as Pascal Reid, 45, and his daughter Kelly Reid, 16, both from Huntington Beach. The accident occurred shortly after the Van’s RV-10 aircraft took off from the Fullerton Municipal Airport.

Kelly, a junior at Huntington Beach High School, was a well-loved athlete who played varsity soccer, lacrosse, and flag football. Her school’s girls’ soccer team shared the heartbreaking news on social media, remembering Kelly as a “genuine and kind” girl who was passionate about life and always put others first. “Her father was at every single game, always so proud of his daughter,” the post read. “Our love and prayers go out to Tara and Rebekah Reid.”

The plane, a single-engine kit model, was attempting to make an emergency landing back at the airport after taking off. However, the aircraft crashed into the roof of a furniture warehouse located on the 2300 block of West Raymer Avenue, about 1,000 feet from the runway. The crash caused a fire inside the building, injuring 19 workers.

Edwin Cano, one of the employees at the warehouse, described the aftermath: “One of my coworkers had his hair burned off… his shirt was also burned off, it was only a few pieces of fabric left on his back.”

Firefighters were quick to extinguish the blaze, and nearby buildings were evacuated as a safety precaution. Eleven people were taken to local hospitals for treatment, while eight others were treated at the scene for less serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Recordings from air traffic control show Pascal’s distress as he reported an emergency and requested to return to the airport. Shortly after, his voice was heard saying “Oh my God…” before the audio cut out. The plane made a sharp left turn and crashed just short of the runway, about 1,000 feet away.

Loved ones and the community have been mourning the loss of the Reid family. The Huntington Beach High School flag football team also shared a tribute to Kelly, calling her a “remarkable person” and a “passionate athlete” who excelled in all she did.

A vigil for Pascal and Kelly was held at Friends Christian Church in Huntington Beach on Friday afternoon. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and more details are expected to be released in the coming days.

The Reid family’s tragic loss has touched the hearts of many, and their memory will live on in the community.
