Thedailymiaminews– MESA, Ariz. — According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, a 16-year-old has been charged with many felonies in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred on a Mesa road last month.
First-degree murder, armed robbery, theft, abandonment of concealment of a dead corpse, and evidence tampering are among the charges against 16-year-old Edgar Cano Quintero.
Officers were called to a trailer park on McKellips Road at approximately 2:30 p.m. on December 18 after witnesses claimed to have seen a suspect shoot several bullets at a victim sitting in a green truck. Shortly after leaving, the suspect came back to take off in the car while the victim was still inside.
Later, the victim was discovered dead from gunshot wounds inside the abandoned truck. During a neighborhood canvass, a rifle thought to be the murder weapon was discovered.
After the youngster was named as a suspect, Quintero was taken into custody on December 27. According to investigators, Quintero allegedly acknowledged carrying the murder weapon and being at the scene of the crime.
Quintero is being detained on a cash-only bond of $1 million.
