Man Accused of Killing Fiancée Day After Proposal Shared on Facebook

Thedailymiaminews– A Pennsylvania man is incarcerated for allegedly killing his mother, who was bedridden and dependent on an oxygen machine.

According to court documents, 40-year-old Chad Walburn was charged by prosecutors this week with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his mother, Phyllis Elaine Walburn, 63, in October. According to her obituary, the older Walburn passed away on October 31 at a hospital in Erie “after many years of health issues.” But police considered her death to be a homicide.

A probable cause arrest affidavit that the Erie Times-News was able to get states that on October 23, the Erie Police Department received a report regarding a man who was refusing to leave a residence. Officers discovered Chad Walburn, the unwanted visitor, inside his mother’s house. She was found unconscious and drenched in her bed by police, according to reports. Her neck was discolored, and it seemed like someone had removed her oxygen line from her nose. Police said that the equipment was unplugged and turned off.

Chad Walburn allegedly acknowledged removing his mother’s oxygen tube, shutting it off, and removing the plug after Miranda. According to the complaint, he then showered her with water from other containers, including a small garbage can. Chad Walburn allegedly stated that his mother needs to die when asked why he did this. After being taken to the hospital by paramedics, she passed away eight days later.

According to the Times-News, the Erie County Coroner declared her death to be a homicide. In the days following the event, Walburn was charged with aggravated assault. According to the newspaper, however, the coroner’s subsequent inquiry revealed that respiratory failure brought on by the deliberate removal of oxygen was the cause of death.

On Friday, Walburn was charged with murder and arraigned.

Erie police Deputy Chief Rick Lorah told local ABC/Fox affiliate WJET, “There were a lot of moving parts to this investigation so we just wanted to make sure that everything aligned with obviously the coroner’s report and our detectives’ investigation.” “At this time, the official coroner’s report is out, listing it as a homicide, and those charges were obviously filed after consulting with the district attorney’s office.”

At a bar in New Jersey, a sex offender proposed to his girlfriend. He then posted a video of the engagement on Facebook with the remark, “I love you baby,” then stabbed his new fiancée to death the next day, according to police.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office claims that Jose Melo, 52, killed Naket Jadix Trinidad Maldonado, 31, at a home in Elizabeth last Monday, December 30. The morning after Melo openly proposed to Trinidad Maldonado at a neighborhood club, news of her passing broke. Last Sunday night, December 29, he shared a video of the proposal on his Facebook page. It shows the couple hugging and embracing after Trinidad Maldonado accepts.

In a press release issued on January 2, the prosecutor’s office stated that Elizabeth Police Officers responded to a residence on Florida Street at around 9:12 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024, after receiving a report of a stabbing. “They found Trinidad Maldonado when they arrived, and he was discovered dead at the scene.”

According to a GoFundMe campaign started by Trinidad Maldonado’s aunt Yolanda De, she was a mother of two who was referred to by her family and friends as “Naky.”

According to the GoFundMe description, “Naky was senselessly taken from us on December 30 in an act of evil.” Her two children were left without a parent and with little prospects for the future as a result of this terrible act committed by someone she trusted. Her family in Florida is doing everything they can, and she has no family in New Jersey. Since I am all she has in New Jersey, I am doing everything in my power to take care of her business here, including any funeral or memorial ceremonies that may be held there.

Three charges have been brought against Melo, a convicted sexual offender: first-degree murder, third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

According to her aunt, Trinidad Maldonado, a native of Puerto Rico, would be laid to rest there following funerals in Florida and New Jersey. According to the GoFundMe, “family and permanent arrangements are being worked out” to care for her children.

In the description, De stated, “I am also doing everything in my power to make sure her young daughters are safe and have the things they need.” As I give the news, my heart aches.

A motive in relation to Trinidad Maldonado’s death has not yet been disclosed by the police.

Melo was found guilty in 2010 of aggravated criminal sexual contact after he “threatened a female with a box cutter and sexually assaulted her,” according to the New Jersey Sex Offender’s Registry.

The former criminal is characterized as a “moderate risk” or “Tier 2” offender.
