Although Idaho is well-known for its expansive farmlands, calm mountains, and beautiful scenery, there is a darker side to the state. Although not as well-known as those in other states, criminal groups are becoming a bigger problem in Idaho. Here are five of Idaho’s most deadly gangs and the power they wield, ranging from drug trafficking to violent murders.
- The North Side, or Norteños
The Norteños, who have their roots in California, have spread to Idaho, where they engage in violent crimes and drug distribution. They are recognized by their characteristic red attire and the number 14, which is frequently inked to represent the letter “N.” Recruiting local kids and expanding their influence, the Norteños are active in both rural and urban areas of Idaho.
- South Side Sureños
The Sureños are just as well-established in Idaho as the Norteños, especially in regions where the Hispanic population is increasing. Known for their loyalty to the Mexican Mafia, Sureños are involved in violent clashes with other gangs, drug smuggling, and human trafficking. Graffiti with the number 13, which stands for their connections to “M” for the Mexican Mafia, frequently marks their actions.
- Knights of Arya
The Aryan Knights are a white supremacist group that started out in the prison system in Idaho and has now spread outside of it. They engage in violent assaults, drug trafficking, and intimidating the populations they target. Since the gang frequently commits hate crimes against minorities, its extreme ideology adds even more risk.
- Bloods
One of the most notorious street gangs in the US, the Bloods, has established a presence in Idaho’s cities. In Idaho, the Bloods, who are well-known for their distinctive red clothing and vicious image, concentrate on drug delivery and gang warfare, regularly engaging in conflict with the Crips and other competing factions.
- The Crips
Alongside their enemies, the Bloods, the Crips, another nationally known gang, are also active in Idaho. The Crips, who wear blue, engage in violent crimes, thievery, and drug trafficking. Gang violence in the state has increased as a result of their recruitment of young people who are at risk in urban areas.
Gangs’ Increasing Impact in Idaho
The gang problem in Idaho is a quickly developing issue, even though it may not yet be on par with that of larger states. Since gangs are constantly changing their strategies and taking advantage of the state’s growing population, law enforcement agencies have a difficult time stopping their operations. The problem is made worse by the state’s geographic location as a transit center for illegal commodities and drugs, as well as the inflow of new citizens.
Hope and Community Reaction
Communities in Idaho have started organizing to combat the effect of gangs. The emphasis is on education and prevention, from youth outreach programs to neighborhood watch groups. However, it will take a consistent effort from both law enforcement and community leaders to dismantle these violent organizations.
Idaho may be known for its breathtaking scenery, but its shadowy corners serve as a reminder that even the most tranquil locations may be dangerous. To ensure the protection of the Gem State and maintain its standing as a peaceful refuge, awareness and action are essential.
