Philadelphia Tragedy: I-95 Crash Kills Two Brothers, Leaves Third Fighting to Cope

Eighteen-year-old Benjamin Davis, who was injured in a severe accident involving his three brothers on the congested I-95 highway in Philadelphia this Saturday, found time to recount his experience and explain the events following the accident to CBS News in an interview on Monday evening.

He said that he has broken a wrist, which unfortunately must be operated on to be fixed correctly, and he has bruising on his eye from the accident that he had.

The vehicle in which they were traveling veered off the road suddenly and then dropped down onto Castor Avenue, where it ultimately crashed below.

“Everything is still in a state of chaos and disarray. Everyone is still in shock and stunned. We have not had a chance yet to really process any of the things that have happened,” Davis said.

Police identify his two brothers, 22-year-old Joshua Davis and 23-year-old Aaron Davis, riding in the back seat and who died.

Benjamin Davis of Mercer County, New Jersey, addressed a very personal matter. He discussed his other brother, Nate, who thankfully survived, as his twin. He explained how he received the horrifying news of the heartbreaking loss of his brothers.

“It’s kind of like your heart stops and you can’t breathe,” he said.

The brothers had been playing their favorite songs when they were coming home from Philadelphia’s family-owned car performance business after a night of work with their father. Benjamin Davis confirmed.

He indicated that he has memories of portions of the crash and impact.

“I remember the ambulance ride, which was intense and somewhat surreal, and my experience of being rolled into the Emergency Room. But what really struck me was when they rolled me into my own private room. Before I even settled in, it was the first thing I saw on the news show that was on. That was precisely how I heard the news essentially immediately,” he recalled.

He stated that the brothers had a passion for cars.

“Josh was certainly the ringleader of our little group, though some may be surprised to hear that he was not technically the oldest member of our crew. He was the one who actually got us going and encouraged us to do something. He is, in fact, the one who got all of us interested in cars and in car culture,” Benjamin Davis recalled of their time together. “Aaron, on the other hand, is the quiet type in our crew.” Benjamin Davis taught everyone he encountered an important lesson: “Just make sure you tell your loved ones ‘I love you’ a lot. That’s one thing I feel I didn’t get to say that often,” he reflected.

The puppy, who was travelling in the vehicle as well, also perished. Police are continuing to investigate the accident.
