During their meal, they were “caught in the act” in an Italian eatery.
It was caught on video that a man and woman were eating at the San Marino restaurant in the north-west of England last Saturday. They put glass in their food and then refused to pay.
The woman told the diner that there was something sharp in her pasta and that it “almost broke” her veneers.
The Sun said they refused to pay the $139 bill, tried to get their money back, and then left the place.
A grilled lamb shish kebab, garlic bread, a Caesar salad, still water, sparkling water, and a Coca-Cola were what the family requested.
“They were almost done eating when the woman called a worker and said she found a piece of glass on her food that got stuck in her mouth and almost broke the veneer teeth she had paid a lot of money for,” the restaurant’s manager, Miraz Yolcu, said.
Staff said that CCTV footage showed the man taking a piece of glass out of his pocket and giving it to the woman to put in her napkin. This led them to believe that the whole thing was probably a scam.
You can see the woman put some of her food on the paper with the glass on top of it before calling for help.
Yolcu said, “She faked having it in her mouth by putting it on the table on a napkin.”
“Everyone was shocked.” They called the boss because they were scared, and he came and asked what was going on. “They told me they wouldn’t pay for this meal,” he said. “The manager said, ‘Sorry, it doesn’t happen sometimes; you can’t find glass in the food.'” We don’t use this kind of glass in the kitchen.
Yolcu said that the glass in question was sent to him, and he knew “straight away” that it wasn’t the right kind. That was before I said that they didn’t pay.
“Scams like these hurt small, hardworking businesses like ours,” San Marino wrote in the video’s background on Facebook.
The event was reported to the Cheshire Police, who stated that they are looking into it, according to Yolcu.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said, “At 1 a.m. on Sunday, April 6, police were called to a restaurant in Widnes to investigate a theft or fraud.” “The caller said that three customers had left without paying for their food because they said they found broken glass in their food.”
“Based on the CCTV footage, the caller thinks that the customers put the glass in the food.” The investigation into the matter is still in its early stages.
Yolcu said that everything seemed fine when the food was brought to the table and people started eating.
“Seeing the CCTV footage was shocking.” They’re not embarrassed because they were with their daughter. We were happy to show them a place even though they weren’t booked because they just showed up and said they needed something to eat.
“They’ve done it before.” “She was looking at all the cameras,” he said. “They didn’t pay for the food, and they didn’t get anything in return.” We caught that on CCTV, so they won’t get any money.
When this happened at the restaurant for the first time, Yolcu looked into it and asked others what they thought they should do.
“It doesn’t happen very often, but it stresses out staff a lot.” It’s a serious charge that could involve the cops, environmental health, and the business in a lot of different ways. The restaurant’s image could be hurt by it, Yolcu said.
“You need to calm down.” You should say, “I need to look at the camera and call the police” before you do anything else. “If they are telling the truth, they will check these things out. If they are lying, they will be shocked, and if they are telling the truth, they will be very scared,” he said.
