The Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs said in a news release on Monday that the country wants “an exhaustive investigation” into the shooting death in a neighbourhood in the south central part of San Diego.
Part of the statement says, “The right people have been asked to look for justice in this case and protect the human rights of our fellow citizens in the United States.”
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office says that around 10 a.m., someone called to say that they saw a man who might have had a gun near 31st and L Streets.
In the end, police found a car outside of a church with a guy and a woman inside.
The woman got out of the car, and over the next hour, police tried to talk things out with the man. But he reportedly pointed a gun at several officers and a serjeant, and several of them fired their guns at him, killing him, according to the sheriff’s office.
The man apparently did not fire his gun during the shooting, and no officers were hurt, according to the sheriff’s office. Inside the car, police found a BB gun that looked like a revolver.
The Mexican government says that the man’s family has been put in touch with civil lawyers and is getting information and help on how to bring the man’s body back to Mexico.
