Children, 3 and 4, in Car as Impaired Driver Crashes in Fenton, Authorities Say

A Pennsylvania man is facing multiple felony DWI charges after crashing his vehicle in Fenton with two small children inside.

On May 26, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to a one-car accident with minor passengers near 792 NY Route 369 in Fenton.

When rescuers arrived, they discovered the driver, Jason M. Delong, 42, of Susquehanna, PA, and two passengers, ages 3 and 4, inside a nearby home.

An investigation indicated that the crashed vehicle was going north on Route 369 when it left the road, colliding with a guardrail before crossing two lanes of traffic and coming to rest on Gould Road.

According to officials, Delong showed indicators of impairment and failed the Standard Field Sobriety Test. Delong was also determined to have an outstanding arrest warrant in Pennsylvania for violating probation.

Delong was detained and charged as follows:

  • Aggravated DWI with a minor passenger under the age of 16, two counts, felony.
  • Driving when intoxicated by drugs is a felony.
  • Aggravated unlicensed use of a motor vehicle, first-degree felony.
  • Reckless endangerment, second degree, two counts of misdemeanor
  • Delong was processed and arraigned at the Central Arraignment Part before being sent to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

The two children waited at the adjoining residence with Broome County Sheriff’s Office personnel until a family member arrived to take them home.

Broome Ambulance and the Port Crane Fire Department also responded to the accident, with EMS treating and clearing the two youngsters and the driver.
