According to various local reports, a mother shot a convicted child molester after allegedly discovering him attempting to rape her 12-year-old daughter in a hotel room.
On Saturday, a shooting took place at the Baymont Inn on Eagle View Drive in Indianapolis.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department verified to WXIN that Bruce Pierce, 39, was gravely injured during the incident.
Court documents obtained by WXIN, WTHR, and WIBC state that the 12-year-old child went to the hotel with a family member to find her mother. They discovered her mother in the hotel with Pierce.
According to court filings, the mother left her daughter alone in the hotel room with Pierce while she transported some items to her vehicle.
When the mother returned, she allegedly found Pierce on top of her daughter, removing her clothes. He is also accused of holding a gun.
According to court filings, the girl’s mother allegedly ordered Pierce to stop, brought out her own revolver, and shot him.
The mother and daughter then fled the hotel and drove away, but they contacted the police and returned to the location.
Pierce was sent to the hospital in critical condition. While a warrant has been issued for his arrest, officials verified to WXIN that he is still hospitalized.
According to an online court case summary filed by the State of Indiana on Wednesday, Pierce is charged with attempted rape, attempted child molestation, unauthorized possession of a handgun by a major violent felon, and detention of a victim under the age of 14.
Pierce is on the Marion County Sheriff’s Office sex offender registry. Online records show he was registered in 2019 and is classified as a “sexually violent predator.”
The registration states that he was convicted of two child molestation incidents in 2016 and sentenced to several years in jail.
It is unknown whether the 12-year-old’s mother will face any charges in the shooting incident.
